The Christmas Song Bracket is Back!!!

Greetings all,

Two years ago, in the midst of COVID chaos, the Specter Family threw together the not-quite legendary Christmas Song Bracket.  Throughout the holiday season, thousands hundreds  tens of people voted through six rounds of head-to-head matchups between 64 musical combatants to determine once and for all what was The Best Christmas Song.  When the dust finally settled, Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" was crowned the (very unexpected) winner.

We had every intention of making this a new yearly tradition.  However, in 2021 the Specter Family had its hands full with a cancer battle, so the follow-up competition sadly did not take place.  But now, in 2022, we are once again ready to take up the torch of Holiday Music Democracy.  The decorations are in the stores.  The sale emails are in your inbox.  The music is on the radio.  It is time.  Let's do this.  

As a refresher, here's how it works:
  • The 2022 Christmas Song Bracket
    In the coming days we will post a link to a Google Form with all the first round matchups.  Simply select your choice in each head-to-head.  Use whatever criteria is most important to you - best lyrics, best music, best vibes, nostalgia, comfort, whatever.  Vote with your heart and your mind.
  • Every 5 days or so, we will announce the winners of the previous round, perhaps provide a little commentary on the results, and provide a link for the next round's form.
  • The final champion will be announced on Christmas Eve.
In addition to voting, you have a very important role to play in this process:  Spread the word!  Forward this site to anyone who you think might enjoy participating.  Subscribe to receive updates.  I won't do anything with your info - I don't care about it and I wouldn't know how if I wanted to. 

And remember, if you are forwarding this info to others, you need to keep doing it every round!

2023 First Round Results

The First Round is now closed!  Results and commentary are below.   But first, my yearly disclaimer:  I am an unabashed music snob.  I may trash-talk one of your favorites.  But this is all in good fun, so please fire back at me.  There's no banter like music geek banter.   Unfortunately my snarky comment game is a little off this morning, so apologies for some of the subpar content.  Hopefully I bring it stronger in Round 2. Speaking of which, Round 2 matchups will be posted soon!  Vote and share! "O Holy Night" crashed out early last year, losing to the eventual champion.  It's on a mission in 2023. Jaunty triumphs over mellow in a 6/8 showdown.  Greensleeves takes out the green grump.   Imagine being so confident as a songwriter that you fire out a new holiday tune and have the audacity to call it " The Christmas Song."  Come at me, all you OSU weirdos.   But still, better than thinking it's a good idea to play drums around a newborn.   There goes San
